Basemaps include geographic information like state and county borders, roads, waterways, lakes, mountains, and more. You can choose between three different Basemaps: Satellite, Topo, and Hybrid.
Use 3D mode to get a better idea of the terrain. Some features, like Map Tools, are not yet available in 3D mode.
- Satellite Basemap: actual images of the land taken from above. Most images were taken within the past 3 years.
- Topo Basemap: topography lines showing elevation and land contours (1:24k scale in most areas). Click here for tips on reading topography maps.
- Hybrid Basemap: images of the land taken from above with topography lines overlaid on top.

Changing Basemaps in the onX Offroad App
Tap the Basemap button in the bottom right corner of the map to change the Basemap.
Tap one of the Basemaps button to change to that Basemap.
Using 3D Mode in the onX Offroad App
3D mode is only available on the Satellite Imagery Basemap for iPhones and iPads.
Tap the Basemaps button in the bottom right corner.
Tap "3D Map" in the Basemaps Menu to change to 3D mode.
in 3D mode, touch the map in two spots and swipe up or down to tilt the map.
Markups (Waypoints, Lines, Shapes and Tracks) will distort to fit the 3D map, but Markup measurements do not account for 3D map contours. Line distances are from point-to-point and Shape areas are flat.
While in 3D mode you can freely rotate the map by touching the screen in two spots and rotating.
Tap the compass in the upper right corner to return the map to north-up orientation.
Open the Basemaps menu and tap the "2D Map" button to return to 2D mode.
Changing Basemaps in the onX Offroad Web Map
Click the Basemap button in the bottom right corner of the map map to change the Basemap.
Click one of the Basemaps button to change to that Basemap.
Using 3D Mode in the onX Offroad Web map
Click the Basemaps Button in the lower right corner.
Click the 3D Map Button in the Basemaps card.
In 3D mode, hold down the CTRL key on your keyboard, then click and drag to tilt or rotate the map.
Waypoints, Lines, Shapes and Tracks will distort to fit the 3D map.
Markup measurements do not account for 3D map contours. Line distances are from point-to-point and Shape areas are flat.
Tap "2D Map" in the Basemaps card to exit 3D mode.
