onX Navigation is now integrated into the onX Offroad App and provides turn-by-turn directions for Premium and Elite users.
Third-party navigation apps like Google Maps and Apple Maps remain available as alternative options for turn-by-turn navigation.
While the Navigation feature is designed to get you as close as possible to your selected destination, the fact that directions are generated is not verification that the underlying road/trail in question is maintained or still traversable, particularly for non-guided trails.
Roads & trails not identified with a colored overlay are shown because they exist or did exist at one point in time based on available data. Their inclusion in our data does not constitute legal permission to ride on them and is not a guarantee that they are maintained or traversable.

Using the Navigate feature in the Offroad App
To get turn-by-turn directions without ever leaving the Offroad App, tap on any feature, road, trail, or user-created markup (ex. waypoints, lines, tracks, shapes, etc.).
On the menu that appears, tap the "Navigate" button in the lower left-hand corner of your screen.
You'll have the option to use onX Navigation, Apple Maps, or Google Maps for generating turn-by-turn directions.
To use onX Navigation, select this option, choose your starting location (or allow the app to use your current location), and tap "Go" as shown in the image below.
The directions will start at your current location and end at the closest point along roads or trails leading to the location you tapped.
While using onX Navigation, you're able to:
- View and listen to the current step and the upcoming maneuver.
- Enable or disable voice navigation.
- Receive rerouting instructions if a turn is missed.
- Choose between viewing perspective/ map orientations (north-up lock, a tilted perspective, or a top-down perspective).
- View the route overview at any time to see your position along the route.
- Adjust the map zoom using the + / - buttons.
- Add a waypoint to mark your location.
onX Navigation is compatible with Apple CarPlay and Android Auto and will be shown on your in-dash screen as well.
Offline Use
If onX Navigation is started while you are online and you later go offline, the navigation will continue to provide directions to your destination.
However, if you are offline when you try to start onX Navigation, the feature won't be available as it requires an internet connection to generate the initial route and directions.
If you go off course while offline, rerouting won't be possible. In this case, you’ll be prompted to return to the established route.
Exception for iOS devices:
If you've downloaded sufficient Offline Maps that cover the entire area you're navigating, you can start a new navigation route and reroute even when offline. This feature is still in development for Android devices (release date: TBA).
