onX Navigation provides turn-by-turn directions directly in the onX Offroad App for Premium and Elite Members. You can also use third-party apps like Google Maps or Apple Maps as an alternative. This article explains how to start onX Navigation and how it works offline.
How to start navigation
- Tap any feature, road, trail, or Markup on the map—including Waypoints, Lines, Tracks, and Shapes.
- Tap the Navigate button in the lower-left corner of the info card.
- Choose onX Navigation.
Choose your starting location or allow the App to use your current location, then tap Go.
Directions start at your current location and end at the closest point along roads or trails leading to your destination. If you miss a turn while in service, the App will reroute you automatically.
While navigating, you can:
- View and listen to the current step and upcoming maneuver.
- Enable or disable voice navigation.
- Choose between north-up, tilted, or top-down map perspectives.
- View the full route overview at any time.
- Adjust map zoom using the + and – buttons.
- Add a Waypoint to mark your location.
Using navigation offline
If you start navigation while online and later lose connectivity, navigation will continue providing directions for your current route. However, if you're already offline when you try to start navigation, the feature won't be available—an internet connection is required to generate the initial route.
If you go off course while offline, rerouting won't be possible and you'll be prompted to return to your established route.
