If you want to make sure the onX Offroad App is ready to use without cell service, follow these steps before you leave service. This article walks you through syncing and updating your Offline Maps, downloading them to your device, testing them in airplane mode, and fixing any maps that don't look right.
Check and update your Offline Maps
Maps saved from another device must be synced to the mobile device you'll use in the field. If a map's saved to your account but not downloaded to your device, it won't be available without cell service.
Open the onX Offroad App and tap the Offline Maps button in the main toolbar at the bottom of the screen.
Tap the three dotsin the top right corner of the Offline Maps menu and select Update all maps if it's available.
Download your saved maps
The icon next to each map's name in the Offline Maps menu tells you its current download status. Here's what each icon means:
Down arrow—the map isn't downloaded to your device. Tap the arrow to start downloading.
Two vertical lines—the map is currently downloading. Tap to pause.
Triangle pointing right—the download is paused. Tap to resume.
Red circle with exclamation mark—the download failed. Tap to retry.
Green circle with checkmark—the map's downloaded and ready to use offline.
Test your Offline Maps
Test your saved Offline Maps before you leave home to make sure you can find your way without service.
First, force-close the onX Offroad App, then enable airplane mode and disconnect from Wi-Fi. Then, re-open the Offroad App.
Once offline, the button in the top-right corner of the Offline Maps menu will turn red and read Offline. You'll also see OFFLINE in red at the top of the screen.
Zoom in on your saved areas and make sure all the information you need is clearly visible.
If the information you need isn't showing properly, make sure the correct Filters and Activity are selected in the Filters menu.
If you have issues viewing any content or map area while your phone is offline, exit airplane mode, open your Offline Maps menu, delete the relevant Offline Maps, and re-download them.
