This article answers common questions about where onX Offroad data comes from, how accurate it is, and how often it's updated.
Where does onX Offroad get its trail data?
We source trail data from a variety of government agencies and motor vehicle use maps (MVUMs), including the U.S. Forest Service, U.S. Geological Survey, Bureau of Land Management, and National Parks. We also source data from private organizations that manage or maintain trail networks and OHV parks, and use our Trail Guide program to collect accurate data from offroaders in the field. Learn more about the Trail Guide program.
Who can see my saved data?
Only you. Markups you save in the onX Offroad App are only visible to you and anyone you've explicitly shared them with. Learn more about sharing and exporting Markups.
How often is parcel data updated?
We update Private and Government land data every one to two years, relying on counties and local data sources to keep their records current. If you notice something you believe is incorrect, learn how to report a map error in onX Offroad.
How accurate are parcel boundaries?
Property boundaries are typically accurate within 20 feet, depending on the county. Learn more about our Private Lands data.
How often is the satellite imagery updated?
Satellite imagery is four years old on average. It's intended to give you a general sense of the terrain but doesn't necessarily reflect current conditions on the ground. Learn more about our Satellite Imagery.
How accurate is my location, elevation, and Go & Track?
Accuracy depends on the GPS sensitivity of your smartphone or tablet. Learn how to troubleshoot location issues in onX Offroad.
What coordinate datum does onX Offroad use?
All onX products use the World Geodetic System 1984 (WGS 84), a three-dimensional coordinate reference frame used to establish latitude, longitude, and elevation for navigation purposes.
