We recently identified and fixed two issues that may have affected markups for some iOS Offroad customers:

Missing content after reinstalling the app:
Some customers who reinstalled the onX Hunt app saw missing markups. This was a display issue only, and no content was lost.

Waypoints created while offline:
Some waypoints created while offline were not saving properly once back online.

Both issues have been resolved. If you're still experiencing either of these, please update to the latest version of the app to fix it.

Offline Maps in onX Offroad

Offline Maps let you download aerial imagery, topography, and trail data directly to your mobile device so the App works without cell service. Save your map before you head out and the App will use it automatically when you enter Offline mode.

Tip: Most phones have GPS built in. Put your device in airplane mode during your ride and you'll still see your location and everything around you—as long as you've saved Offline Maps for that area.

How to access Offline Maps

Tap the Offline Maps button in the main toolbar to open the Offline Maps menu and create and view Offline Maps.

Going offline

Offline mode turns on automatically when you lose cell service. For the best experience, tap Go Offline manually or enable airplane mode before your ride. This forces the App to load map data from your device rather than attempting to pull it over a weak cellular connection, which means faster load times in the field.

Note: 3D mode is available offline as long as you've saved Offline Maps for the area you'll be riding in.

Map detail level

Higher detail maps look sharper up close but take up more storage space on your device. 

When saving Offline Maps, use high-detail maps for the specific areas you plan to ride and a larger, lower-detail map around them to keep the bigger picture in view.

Map download status

The Offline Maps menu shows you which areas are saved to your device:

  • A green checkmark in the Offline Maps menu and a green border on the map means the area is saved to your device.
  • A red and white striped border means the area isn't saved to your device.

You can delete saved maps at any time to free up storage space on your phone.

Tip: Download any available map updates before your ride to ensure you have the latest data. Put your phone in airplane mode and disconnect from WiFi to test what you'll see in the field before you leave.

Managing Offline Maps on the Web Map

You can create and manage Offline Maps from your desktop or laptop at the onX Offroad Web Map (webmap.onxmaps.com/offroad) and download them to your phone later. Naming your Offline Maps makes it easier to track what's saved on your device.

Online-only features

GPS lets you see your location without cell service, but some features require a cell or Wi-Fi connection:

  • Markups created offline are saved to your device but aren't backed up to your account and synced across devices until you're back online.
  • Real-time weather information isn't available offline.
